Christmas bin collections in Coventry

Coventry City Council has announced the changes to waste and recycling collections over the Christmas period.

The changes are as follows:

  • Week commencing 14 December- There will be no garden waste collections this week. Residents' next garden waste collection will be either the week commencing 18 or 25 January depending on their collection schedule. Other collections will go ahead as normal.
  • Week commencing 21 December- All residents' household waste bins will be collected this week. Anyone who was due to have their recycling bin collected should put out their household bin instead. If your collection day is usually a Friday, please put your bin out on Monday 28 December. There will be no collection on the Friday as it’s a bank holiday.
  • Week commencing 28 December- There will be no collections this week unless your green or blue bin was due to be collected on Friday 25 December, in which case your replacement bin collection will be on Monday 28 December.
  • Week commencing 4 January - All residents' household waste bins will be collected this week. Anyone who was due to have their garden waste bin collected should put out their household bin instead. If you are due to have your recycling collected this week, they will collect up to two extra clear sacks of recycling as well.
  • Week commencing 11 January - If you are due to have your recycling collected this week, they will collect up to two extra clear sacks of recycling as well.

Over the next couple of weeks, residents will be receiving their new waste and recycling calendars. These calendars detail collection days and information for next year and any changes to collections over the Christmas period. Remember you can also check your street’s calendar on our website: www.coventry.gov.uk/bindays

Residents will be receiving two clear bags for extra recycling, so any recyclable packaging can be collected and processed properly. These will be picked up after Christmas.

This will be the last year that the Council automatically sends a calendar to every household. If anyone still needs a calendar please call 024 7697 5532, email us at [email protected] or visit www.coventry.gov.uk/bins and complete the online form to let Coventry City Council know your address and they will send one to you this time next year.

Cllr Patricia Hetherton, Cabinet Member for City Services, said: “Christmas will no doubt be a little different this year for many of us, so we wanted to make sure we let you know what is happening with the collections well in advance.

“Calendars are being printed and will be delivered shortly. But they can also be viewed on our website.

“We know Christmas can mean people have extra waste and recycling which is why we’re ensuring that everybody gets an extra household bin collection just before Christmas. We’re also sending two clear sacks which can be used for any excess recycling.

“It’s worth mentioning that this will be the last year where we send the calendars to every address in the city. So, if you or a loved one would like to keep receiving a paper calendar every year, please ensure that you get in touch with us and let us know.

“Our bin crews have done an amazing job in what has certainly been a very difficult time year and I’d like to thank them for all their hard work and residents for their kind support.”
